Togo 1-0 Uganda
The Sparrow Hawks of Togo completed a double over Uganda after edging the Cranes with a 1-0 victory in a game played at Stade de Kegue in a group E 2015 Afcon qualifier.
Serge Akakpo netted the only goal of the game in the 70th minute to relegate Uganda to 3rd of the group with four points awaiting the results of the match between Ghana and Guinea.
The hosts started brightly and created the better of chances with Emmanuel Adebayor and Jonathan Ayite coming close but Denis Onyango was at hand to save.
Uganda’s only threat on Togo’s goal came in the closing stages of the first half but Tonny Mawejje shot wide and wild.
After recess, Micho introduced Brian Majwega for Brian Umony and the substitution almost paid dividends when the KCC FC winger got through on goal but shot wide with the goalie at his mercy.
Tchanile Tchakala’s charges got the breakthrough with twenty minutes to go when Akakpo headed home past a static Onyango in goal from a Jonathan Ayite free kick down the right flank.
This prompted Micho to bring on Daniel Sserunkuma for William Luwagga Kizito and despite late pressure from The Cranes, the Togolese held on for their second victory of the campaign which currently puts them on top of the group with 6 points.
Cranes’ next game will be against Ghana in Kampala next month while Togo will host Guinea in Lome.
