AFCON 2015 QUALIFIER Group E:

FULLTIME RESULTS:

Guinea 2-0 Uganda

Ghana 3 – 1 Togo

Uganda’s roll coaster of agony since 1978 without making it to the AFCON finals will possibly extend to another 37 or so years.

The East African nation, who have finished with 10 men have succumbed to a 2 – 0 defeat to Guinea at the Mohammed V stadium in Morocco.

Tricky left footed winger, Ibrahim Traore gave the hosts a well deserved lead by the half time break with a beautifully curled free kick effort 23 minutes on the clock.

Traore’s free kick followed an uncalled for foul at the edge of the area by Cranes’ team skipper, Andrew Mwesgiwa.

At this time, the Cranes who defended all along the opening 20 minutes opened up and latched their first attempts winning 4 quick corners before Senegalese referee, Malang Diedhiou called for the half time break.

The second stanza of the game kicked off in high gear for the home team as they only kicked from where they ceased in the first half.

Seydouba hit the bar with a right footed 35 yard effort before coach Micho called for the opening change of the game – Farouk Miya was replaced by the pacy striker Dan Sserukuma.

Few minutes later, Mwesigwa’s moments of madness erupted as he carelessly pulled down dangerman Idrissa Sylla in the forbidden area.

The referee did not hesitate to send the Uganda skipper for an early shower to paste more misery for Uganda.

Seydouba converted for Guinea’s second and Uganda never recovered with Mamelodi Sun Downs goal keeper, Denis Onyango doubling as a sweeper for long spells of the game.

Despite Micho’s late changes where Robert Ssentongo  came in for a tired looking William Luwagga  Kizito and Brian Majwega was replaced by Michael Sserumaga, the Cranes efforts went begging.

Uganda has yet again succumbed  at the final hurdle where they only needed a draw to qualify for the AFCON 2015 final in Equatorial Guinea.

Ghana ends the campaign as group E winners on 11 points, Guinea qualifies as second runners up while Uganda and Togo painfully bow out.
