Sadolin Mongers packed and left for the Christmas break, taking home the bacon on Saturday following their 13-26 victory over Mutoni Warriors at Legends Rugby Grounds.

Man of the match and new season’s signing Simon Wakabi and Adrian Wasswa blasted over to crown Monger’s festive season with the bonus point win, retaining top spot on the log for two consecutive weekends.

The premiership leaders were right on course when Wasswa inspired them by diving over for the first try, converting for a famous lead in the sun-drenched afternoon.

Monger’s coach Robert Powell couldn’t help but dance like nobody was watching immediately after Wakabi’s try, monger’s second, that ensured a healthy margin for Wasswa’s conversion.

Everything was just fine for the visitors until Warriors mounted a dramatic comeback towards half time. Warriors punched a few holes through Musisi Henry’s drop goal, a try, penalty and conversion, swiftly closing down the gap amid shock from the stands.

Anxiety, blame game and depression embraced the Mongers bench as the side gathered for a stern half time talk, leading by only one point, 13-14.

Second half got much better for the visitors, Adrian Wasswa breaking through with an ebullient run to crash over for the third, he eventually converted. Kicking poorly, both out of hand cost Warriors as things continued looking bleak for them.

Mongers did not tolerate their opponents piling pressure, as the side persisted with ruthlessness at the tackle before sealing the win with the last try of the match.
