Sadolin Mongers coach Robert Powell has attributed his side’s brilliant performance in the recently concluded first half of the 2014/2015 Nile Special Uganda Rugby Premiership to the tough training the outfit had before the
start of the season along with the introduction of new useful players.

Powell also stressed his attention to detail for Mongers who now rest in the festive season with five wins, a draw
and one loss, that tasks him to recommend specific pre-match meals before every weekend encounter that
involves his team.

Our form has mainly been down to hard training and the addition of some useful players. The team now prepares much better for matches with a team manager who has the task of organising pre-match meals and sufficient water for drinking among others.

Mongers shifted to second position with 25 points having led the premiership for a couple of weeks before current leaders Heathens, defeated defending champions Kobs 11-10 in a late fixture to take advantage by one point.

And Powell says the team felt extra ordinary, the couple of weeks they stayed top of the table.

The boys enjoyed the experience of making the headlines as the top team for the brief two weeks. It was something new to them and as a group they realised that the team has an opportunity to become a recognised force in Ugandan Rugby on a consistent basis.

Prior the start of the season, the Entebbe based team took on the services of Simon Wakabi from Kobs and according to Powell, Wakabi, Ronald Adigas, Kalule Loren, Elijah Segawa, Shaun Basega and Andrew Olweny have been outstanding.

Simon Wakabi has been massive for us so far this season, not only in what he has done in matches but his influence on the training pitch is extremely significant. Ronald Adigas gave us the experience in the front row and a large physical presence. Kalule Loren and Shaun Basega have crossed the line and made telling contributions in defence and attack. Several of the other younger players have had a game time so far this season and generally not been found wanting. Both Wakabi and Adigas are keen to help develop talent and having these two individuals as part of the brain trust takes a lot off my shoulders. Kigongo Ssebalamu was supposed to be semi
retired this season but the success of the team has revitalized him and is playing consistently well in his twilight
years.

Sadolin Mongers now look forward to the second half of the season and Powell finally told kawowo Sport’s Edgar Kazibwe what he wants the club to keep on doing. “Overall we want to continue the success we have had so
far this season through to the end. We will win the games we can and take whatever bonus points we have to
secure. The mid season break is giving us an opportunity to get a few injuries sorted out and we expect to be at full strength for the game against Buffaloes on 3rd January.”
