Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has on Monday voted the respective best excelling sportsmen for the previous year 2014.

In a highly democratic exercise conducted by the sports reporters to recognize the excelling sports icons, USPA deliberated upon the rewarding process of over 25 sporting disciplines.

USPA President, Sabiti Muwanga highlighted about the awards saying;

USPA’s tradition of rewarding the best sportsmen will move on for years and this is one way of motivating our dear sportsmen

Apart from Squash, Tennis and Body building, three events which completely missed out on the list for different reasons, all the other sports disciplines were recognized.

In a highly contested poll, footballer, Yunus Sentamu beat Geofrey Massa to the footballer of the year gong as Nemostars’ Volleyballer, George Aporu beat Sport-S’ Dickens Otim.

Kick boxer, Moses ‘Of Uganda’ Golola bounced back as the kick boxer of the year whilst Joan Muokova dethroned Lillian Mbabazi as best lady woodball player.

The Sports journalists also shortlisted the candidates for the USPA best sports personality of the year and the team of the year.

AS Vita Striker, Yunus Sentamu, Basketballer, Claire Lamunu, Loughborough Lightening netballer, Peace Proscovia and athlete Moses Kipsiro are competing for the sports personality of the year.

For the team of the year, Netball Cranes (qualified to world cup since 1979), Cricket Cranes (qualified to ICC World Division 2) and ladies Volleyball team, Vision Volleyball Camp (VVC) are competing for the team of the year award.

The crowning will be conducted in April 2015 at Imperial Royale Hotel at a date yet to be named.
