Buffaloes 07-35 Mongers

Mongers opened their accounts of the new Rugby Premiership with great fortunes after beating depleted Buffaloes 07-35 at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.

Mongers were spurred by Adrian Wasswa’s prowess off the tee and John Wandicho’s brilliance on the turf to cap a much desired start to the season.

The Entebbe based side needed tries from Joseph Bulago, Wandicho (2) and Wasswa (2) to down their rivals who missed a host of senior players currently in preparation for the HSBC World Series.

Buffaloes conceded early in the opening half when Bulago touched, Adrian converting for an early advantage for the visitors.

Martin Okello had his name on the lips of the fans when he took charge of Buffaloes penalty close to the edge of the 22, but the industrious talent kicked wide of the uprights.

Mongers kept poking in the holes but their rivals garnered a break through when Robert Masendi broke through with a brilliant run, softly touching.
He later converted to level matters.

After several duels in the evening sun, Simon Wakabi drove the dagger right through the hearts of Buffaloes fans when beautifully chipped the oval ball over their back line.

Wandicho grabbed it mid-air and sprinted for touch, Adrian kicking through for a half time 07-14 lead.

The score board read the same for a greater part of the second half until Simon Wakabi released Wasswa scoring another just behind the posts.

Scrummage in Buffaloes final quarter gifted Mongers another moment of brilliance, as the score gap grew bigger, against the hosts. Wasswa converted both.

At 07-28, sloppy handling further cost Charles Uhuru’s teammates when Wandicho pounced, kicking the ball out of their control to run with it till he crossed the white chalk in fashion.

Another conversion from Wasswa meant victory for the visitors, who registered their first Rugby Premiership win over Buffaloes since week one of the 2014/2015 season.
