Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) are new CECAFA Club Nile Basin champions after a 2-1 victory over Kenya’s AFC Leopards in Sudan.
In a very attack-minded spirit, the reigning Uganda Cup champions took the lead courtesy of Matthew Odong in the 29th minute. SCVU goal keeper Benjamin Ochan conceded the first goal of the tournament in the one added minute of the first half.
On return from the locker rooms, both sides shared possession with SCVU creating better chances than their opponents. SCVU’s Odong, Ceaser Sapeo and Muzamir Mutyaba gave Leopards a lot of work to do in their backyard.
Eventually, Mutyaba nicked the winner in injury time to send the traveling team of Ugandan fans into a frenzy. Midfielder Mutyaba and Jackson Kibirige had scored five of SCVU’s six competition goals.
It is some consolation for SCVU having failed to retain their domestic title as well as a poor display at the CAF Confederations Cup competition.
FINAL RESULT SCVU 2-1 AFC Leopards
