AFCON 2017: Egypt’s Al Ahly will be most represented African club in Gabon

Egyptian giant club, Al Ahly will be the most represented African club at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

With seven players, Al Ahly has the most number of players from the same club at the tournament.

They are closely followed by the reigning CAF Confederation Cup champions, TP Mazembe from Democratic Republic of Congo with six.

Tunisia’s Etoile Du Sahel and Esperance De Tunis each have five players.

Uganda’s Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Club Africain (Tunisia), ASEC Mimosas (Cote D’Ivoire), CS Sfaxien (Tunisia) and Renaissance Sportive Berkane from Morocco each has 3 players.

KCCA has Joseph Ochaya, Geofrey Sserunkuma and Timoth Dennis Awanyi.

There are 13 clubs that have two players each. These are CF Mounana from Gabon, USM Alger (Algeria), Chicken Inn (Zimbabwe), Dynamos (Zimbabwe), Baroka FC (South Africa), Smouha SC (Egypt), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), AS Vita Club (DR Congo), Golden Arrows (South Africa), Stade De Malien (Mali), Orlando Pirates (South Africa), Dynamic Togolais (Togo) and Ethiopia’s St George.

The rest of the clubs like Young Africans (Tanzania), WAFA (Ghana), Vipers (Uganda), Onduparaka (Uganda) have one player.

A few players are not attached to any club by the time the tournament will kick off. Togolese goalkeeper Kossi Agassa and captain Emmanuel Adebayor, Uganda’s central defender Isaac Isinde are some of the players not attached to any club at the moment.

Togo defender Hakim Ouro-Sama who features at AS Togo-Port is the only player playing in the country’s second tier league.
