Uganda Cranes defender cum midfielder Hassan Wasswa Mawanda has played down the current Egypt football team threat saying they are no longer as fierce as they used to be in previous years.

The Cranes face the Pharaohs on Saturday at Stade de Port Gentil in their second Group D match and Wasswa, speaking to Kawowo Sports believes they are beatable a side.

“We watched them (Egypt) draw against Mali and they don’t look threatening like the previous Egypt teams,” he said. “If we can replicate the way we performed against Ghana in the second half from the start, we have the ability to get a decent result against them,” he added.

Wasswa, who before the tournament got a deal in Lebanon says they are not afraid of big name players in Hector Cuper’s side revealing the Cranes strength lies in team work.

We have no big names in our team like they do but for us; it’s team work and we shall use that to our strength like we have always done.

On the situation in camp, Wasswa, one of the team’s best performers in the 1-0 loss to Ghana says the boys are motivated and focused on the next game.

The team is well motivated. We are focused and know how important that fixture means to us and we shall give our all.

The Cranes must avoid loss against the seven-time champions on Saturday to stand a chance of progressing to the last eight.
