2017 Roll Ball World Cup:
- Men (Finals): India 9-6 Iran
- Women (Finals): India 6-4 Iran
India women and men national roll ball sides successfully defended the 2017 world cup titles held at the Sheikh Russel Roller Skating Stadium (Paltan Ground) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
To clinch the titles, the Indian men and women teams defeated Iran 9-6 and 6-4 respectively in closely contested finals played on Thursday.
The Ugandan women were stopped at the quarter final stage 5-0 by Kenya as the men succumbed to loss in the group stages.
According to confirmed reports, Uganda’s head coach Dennis Mpoza deserted his duties upon team arrival in Bangladesh.
Uganda Rollball Federation president, Thomas Bamuteeze acted as head coach for the teams during the event.
He explained Mpoza’s situation as quoted by The New Vision;
Mpoza did not desert the team. He asked to take up an umpiring role because of his level of expertise. There was no way, I could stop him from officiating at the event
Both the Kenya women and men sides finished third at the tournament that was marking its 4th edition.
Over 400 players from 39 countries took part in the event that was inaugurated by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and officially closed by President Md Abdul Hamid.
The tournament organizers offered 16 air tickets for team Uganda.
Uganda, Kenya, Sierra Leone and South Africa represented the African continent.
