Africa Gold Cup: Uganda 78-17 Tunisia
Tunisia’s unforgettable seven days in Uganda ended in a 78-17 defeat at the hands of the Uganda Rugby Cranes Saturday afternoon at Legends, Lugogo.
Tries from Philip Wokorach (3), Ivan Magomu, Mathias Ochwo, Alex Mubiru, Solomon Okia, Charles Uhuru, Michael Wokorach, Pius Ogena, James Odong and team captain Brian Odong delivered Uganda’s second win of the campaign.
With the build up to the game dominated by Tunisia’s complaints about the treatment by their hosts, even the Tunisians didn’t expect a win but rather a descent scoreline.
Philip Wokorach opened the tap for the tries to flow early in the game before Uhuru and the two Odongs (Brian and James) also crossed the white chalk.
John Duncan’s charges led 43-00 at half time with Tunisia failing to get a thing right in the opening 40 minutes. The Cranes started the second period with the same momentum that climaxed the first stanza.
Michael Wokorach opened the way for tries in the second half, breaking the Tunisia line to cross the line. Philip Wokorach made no mistake with the extras as Uganda reached the half century mark. Ogena, Ochwo, Philip and Okia all touched down as Uganda cruised.
Phillip Wokorach, named man of the match on the day, scored 31 points with three tries and 16 points off his boot. Ivan Makmot also got onto the score sheet with the last conversion of the game.
Mike Otto, Santos Senteza and Joseph Tamale all made their debuts on the day.
Uganda will play Namibia in their next game at Legends on Saturday.
