A ten man Uganda Cranes out fit booked a berth for the semi-finals of the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in nail biting fashion after a later equalizer at the death of their group B encounter with Ethiopia in Kakamega on Sunday.

Abdel Abubeker shot the Walia Stars ahead after 22 minutes into the game.

Following a string of missed opportunities and a red card to left back Isaac Muleme with 10 minutes left on the clock, the game looked destined to swing in favour of Ethiopia.

KCCA forward Derrick Nsibambi saved the best for last with the equalizing goal well celebrated as Uganda reached the semi-finals.

Nsibambi’s goal arrived with 5 minutes to play as Uganda recorded their second victory at the tournament after the earlier goal-less stalemate with Burundi.

Ethiopia joins South Sudan as the other country that already bowed out of the tournament in group B.

Meanwhile, in group A, Zanzibar already qualified for the semi finals. Any of the three countries guests Libya, hosts Kenya or Tanzania could join Zanzibar after Monday’s games.

Tanzania Kilimanjaro Stars take on the Kenya Harambee Stars in the traditional Eastern African derby on Monday.

Libya will take on Zanzibar in the other match.

Rwanda is already eliminated.

Uganda Cranes is the defending champions since their heroic performance during the previous tournament hosted by Ethiopia in 2015.
