Tues, 13thAug: Nvubu 0 – 5 Mbogo (Agg: Mbogo Wins 7 -0)
Next Fixture: Wed, 14th Aug: Mpindi Vs Nsenene
Mbogo, literally translated ‘Buffalo’ is a huge animal that cherishes and enjoys water bodies. Nvubu, is another water creature that entirely thrives in such environs.
When the two animals, which are totems for the Baganda faced off at Nakivubo Stadium during the Bika Bya Buganda football Tourney on Tuesday evening, Mbogo convincingly won the battle with a 5-0 score line.
Live wire striker, Nelson Senkatuka, who had a busy evening at office opened the Mbogo scoring chart with a wonder lob over Mike Muwanga in Nvubu’s goal posts. The former Kings College Buddo Student, who was recently handed a surprise and rare call up to CHAN Uganda Cranes squad by Coach Micho, utilized a beautiful laid through ball from Entebbe F.C Midfielder, Siraje Ssentamu, to play the ball cleverly over the advancing goalie.
KCCA forward, another CHAN Uganda Cranes player, Erisa Ssekisambu made it two before the half time recess with the simplest of tap-ins following James Kasibante’s wonderfully executed cross down the left flank.
A further brace from Henry Nyanzi and Ronald Nyanzi’s late effort capped another memorable day for coaches Badru Ssenkayi and Frank Video Anyau on Mbogo’s bench in a match watched by Rubaga South Member of Parliament, Moses Kasibante, one of the descendants of Lutakome Kayiira, the head of Mbogo Clan.
All the five strikes are rewarded with a cash prize of UShs 10,000 each courtesy of sponsors, Kyosimba Onanya Ceremonial Services.
Mbogo’s goalie, Michael Mawjega, who scored a historic goal against Nyange in the round of 32 tie had a silent evening as he was rarely troubled by the Nvubu forwards led by Seruma duo of Ali and John.
Mbogo thus becomes the first clan to qualify for this year’s quarter-finals and will face the winner between Nkima and Mpologoma. The latter lead 2-0 from the first leg held last Saturday after striker Henry Kiseeka’s brace.
Bika action resumes Wednesday when Mpindi hosts Nsenene at Nakivubo Stadium. Kick off is 4 pm. The annual tourney is sponsored by CBS FM, Buganda Kingdom, SWICO, Riham Cola and Kyosimba Onayanya Ceremonial Services.
However, by press-time, the entire Mbogo sqaud including the coaches was still stranded at Nakivubo Stadium for failure to get transport allowances back to their respective residences.
